WE Solicitors have negotiated a six figure settlement for the family of a former employee of Clover Brown Ltd who sadly passed away having contracted mesothelioma.

We were contacted by the sufferers’ widow and advised that her husband had worked for Clover Brown, an engineering firm in Norfolk who worked in the sugar industry, in particular repairing and replacing the pipework.

The family had long since left the area and having moved to North Wales had lost touch with work colleagues.  However following a press article appealing for former workers to come forward, we made contact with witnesses who were able to assist us in piecing together the working practices which including removing and reinstating asbestos lagging on pipework having been employed as a pipe fitters mate.

This was an unusual case as the gentleman had previously had myeloma which had been treated over a number of years and it was necessary to obtain evidence from a consultant haematologist to determine life expectancy in view of his medical history had he not contracted mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure in the course of his employment.

Steven Evans the solicitor who represented the family said, “This was a difficult claim as when the family approached us we had little if any information to go on.  We can only thank the witnesses who came forward to help the family. Often we find that relatives are put off attempting to make a claim for a loved ones suffering as they feel they cannot prove where exposed to asbestos may have taken place. As this case demonstrates it is important that families and victims contact specialist firms who have experience of the industries within which exposure is likely to have taken place and are therefore much better placed to investigate all avenues.

Mesothelioma is often associated with the industrial heartlands of the Midlands, North West and North East but this is one of a number of cases where the exposure has taken place in a semi rural area.  The sugar industry is becoming more prevalent in asbestos litigation. Due to the high temperatures involved in the refining process pipework throughout the plants would have to be lagged – largely with asbestos.

Having contacted us to engage our services under difficult and upsetting circumstances, at the conclusion of her case our client said she found the service from WE Solicitors excellent. She went on to state “They dealt with my situation with complete empathy. I can’t rate Steven and his team highly enough.”

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with an asbestos related illness we would urge you to contact us on 0800 294 3065 as soon as possible to discuss the circumstances. We can help guide you through the process and help focus your thoughts.
