A former shipyard worker has secured more than £143,000 in compensation after being exposed to asbestos almost 50 years ago.

The 66-year-old former joiner, who worked at City Dock in Bristol, developed mesothelioma after inhaling asbestos dust and fibres whilst working at Charles Hill & Sons Limited as an apprentice.

Mr. A sought specialist advice from we solicitors in November 2007. We helped him secure the compensation in under 6 months.

Specialist solicitor John Green from we solicitors said he was delighted with the outcome. Unfortunately as both the company and their insurers have gone out of business Mr. A is only able to recover 90% of his award from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

He said: “It’s extremely important that sufferers of this terrible disease get their compensation in their lifetime, and it was great that we were able to make this happen for this man.”

Mrs A commented “John Green has always supported me and the consideration, guidance and help I have received has been nothing but excellent. I trust John Green and WE Solicitors and know that they always look at everyone with respect and dignity.”

Mr. Green is reminding people who have been diagnosed with any asbestos condition to immediately contact solicitors for further advice, as there is a mistaken belief that all claims for asbestos-related illnesses could no longer be pursued since the House of Lords decision on pleural plaques.

More than 2,000 people a year die from mesothelioma, and that number is expected to rise year on year until 2020.
